Taming that Gas Guzzler!

Save Fuel Using Your Gas Guzzler
If I could I would love to buy a hybrid car, but I can’t! personal finances decree that I should continue driving my clapped out old car! However no matter what type of car you drive there are ways of keeping fuel costs down. Follow these simple tips and you can save up to 20% each time you fill up.
Don’t speed
- Driving within the speed limit, 100km/hr as opposed to 110km/hr, you can cut up to 15% off your fuel usage not to mention avoiding heavy fines.
Drive defensively
- By checking what’s happening ahead and avoiding sharp braking or accelerating you use less fuel.
Drive smoothly
- Don’t overwork the engine and change gear early. If you drive an automatic, choose ‘economy’ gear.
Don’t idle
- If you are waiting or stuck in traffic jam for longer than a minute turn your engine off.
Avoid air conditioning
- Just because you have it doesn’t mean you have to use it! Air conditioning uses up to 10% more fuel. Wind the window down instead and go for that wind swept 70’s look!
Treat your Car
- Keep your tyres at right pressure, check wheel alignment, and have your car serviced regularly.
Keep your load down
- Remove golf clubs, bike racks, roof racks or any other heavy loads when not in use. These small measures will lighten your car thus improving fuel consumption.
If you are lucky enough to be in the market for a new car, do some research first to find the most cost effective car to drive?
