1. Story of Cosmetics
This short video is a MUST WATCH for anyone who uses shampoo, makeup or any other beauty products (which of course means, a must watch for just about everyone!).
2. Raw Milk and Big Business
Government, public health and dairy industry officials restrict the sale and distribution of raw milk, citing safety concerns. But small dairy farmers, organic consumers' advocates and raw milk drinkers say that safety isn't the real issue -- it's control of the dairy market. The following article is about the situation in the USA but it is equally relevant here in NZ (and becoming more so).
Please take time to educate yourself on some of the facts about raw milk.

3. BP Photoshopping Bad PR
More lies and deceit from BP. This image was posted on BP's main website until yesterday. Look at all of those people working so hard to stem the oil disaster! Now look a little closer (see link below). Now be appalled that it's egregiously—and very poorly—photoshopped.

5. Local 'sky food'
Here's a positive story from the UK.
Food from the Sky is the worlds first supermarket roof garden, growing organic fruit and vegetables for sale in Thornton’s Budgens in Crouch End, London.
Its a collaboration between Thornton’s Budgens, The Positive Earth Project (a local social enterprise) and the local community. The project is a non for profit venture with all proceeds from sale of products being sunk back into the project.
It is designed to inspire our community and a wider audience on the possibilities for urban food growing at a time when London needs to grow considerably more food and therefore lower our carbon footprint.

6. Hot water from your compost
Here’s a great tip given by a member of the Aquaponics Made Easy Forum on cheap easy to build hot water system using compost. The original question posted to the forum was how to heat a fish tank over winter without any extra energy costs. A hard thing to do. Thermal Mass heating was one answer but a crafty member posted a very interesting solution and swears that it works a treat. We’ve illustrated his simple design. So simple you will think “Aha! Why didn’t I think of that?”

7. Home grown revolution
Keep you eyes peeled for this movie - looks like a must see.
8. NZ Cow Power?
Manure from 250,000 cows at a dairy farm in northeast China will fuel the world’s largest cow manure-fed biogas power project, planned to open in September, reports the New York Times. The Huishan Farm in Shenyang will generate 38,000 mWh of power annually, which will be sold to the state grid in China. The project is expected to reduce about 180,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Perhaps this is something that the dairy industry could consider doing in NZ to lower their enormous environmental impact.
9. Soil Vs Dirt
What is the difference between soil and dirt?
Soil is alive. Dirt is dead. A single teaspoon of soil can contain billions of microscopic bacteria, fungi, protozoa and nematodes. A handful of the same soil will contain numerous earthworms, arthropods, and other visible crawling creatures. Healthy soil is a complex community of life and actually supports the most biodiverse ecosystem on the planet.
