Developing sustainable cities - Living Roofs
Thursday, January 13, 2011 - Thursday, January 13, 2011
Living Roofs, Unitec and Andrew.Stewart Ltd are proud to host an event for people interested in developing sustainable cities.
A critical element to achieve environmentally sustainable design is the incorporation of living roofs as a fundamental design principle to development in New Zealand. Living roofs have been demonstrated to reduce stormwater, enhance biodiversity, reduce energy requirements through enhanced thermal insulation, increase Green Star NZ score, provide high amenity roof top outdoor areas increasing net rentable area and help us adapt to and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Dr Bass will give an overview of how green roofs work with heat and energy, using examples from a wide range of real buildings, and indicate how this can deliver real benefit to owners, developers, and local authorities.
Thursday, 13 January 2011, 2 - 4.30pm (4.30pm drinks & nibbles)
The Bluestone Room, 9-11 Durham Lane, Auckland Central
Dr Brad Bass has been a pioneering researcher in green roofs and energy conservation. Dr Bass is a researcher, in-house Government Green Roof expert, working for the Centre for Environment, University of Toronto.
Dr Bass has been given a number of green roof awards, including being a co- recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 as member of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Task Group on Data and Scenario Support for Impact and Climate Analysis (TGICA).
