Description
This hybrid, 123 square meter straw bale home is nestled in a back section in the town of Geraldine. Owners, designer Sarah Johnston, and builder, Sven Johnston, decided to blend their past experiences to create their first home together. The overall intent was to design and build a warm, comfortable home, while keeping costs low (by building it themselves and utilizing materials and resources in creative and unique ways. Other building components include earth and lime plasters (interior & exterior), earth floors, double-glazed, timber windows (built by Sven with components of old, discarded windows), timber ceiling throughout, underfloor, radiant heating system, natural finishes and custom benchtops & joinery. This home is still under construction.
