Description
Amazing location - private and quiet. Beautiful 3-yr old open-plan straw-bale house has been built with privacy and sustainability in mind. Set on a 1.16 ha (3 acre) lifestyle block in rural Hexton, just 10 mins drive West of Gisborne city, 5 mins. from Grey's Bush Reserve. We have lived on the land for 6 years and managed it organically and biodynamically.
The house has been built using mostly natural materials. Stone and untreated wood has been incorporated both inside and out. Hand-crafted cedar/oregon double-glazed doors and windows with french-crafted iron hardware. River pebbles line the main bathroom and feature in the outside shower. Beautifully stained concrete floor throughout. Biopianted interior. Both bedrooms are good sizes and feature artistic shelving cut into the straw walls with redgum shelving; window seats.
Extremely energy-efficient with solar hot water, wet-back, 12-V halogen lighting, wonderfully effective vermiculture (wastewater) unit. Two 5,000 gallon (19,000 Litre) concrete water tanks and two 1,000 litre tanks for watering. The house is wonderfully warm in the winter, cool in the summer.
Very private location hidden away down a private liquid amber tree'd driveway, with wonderful neighbours who share our love of natives (the property is surrounded by a family farm on 3 sides and another beautifully designed house to the north).
Fruit trees, native trees and birds abound; great place to relax.
