Its not all roses, there are limits as to how much grid tied power may be fed back into the national grid before the grid voltage gets unstable; see this article from Australia

Grid Tie inverters used in Aus and NZ already need to comply with AS4777 which sets upper and lower voltage limits beyond which the inverter will self-disconnect. The "problem" raised in the article does not exist.
Also Aus has a lot more coal fired generation than NZ which is slower to ramp up and down than our hydro generation so the issue won't really arise here.
