Storage battery quality
Posted 28 Aug 11 12:28 PM
I am interested to know of opinions regarding the various 'quality' and therefore / price differences in the Valve regulated and gel varieties of storage batteries about. I am going down the low mantenance route due to our lifestyle and lack of hours to devote to attention to the water levels etc. We have a number of options includeing BAE Secura PVV series and Enersys Supersafe, and the ?exide / Absolyte AGM. All seem to feature with good recommendation but it is difficult to be sure. Any recommendations?

Have you already been using a battery based system? I too checked out the agm , but in the end went to the flooded type, Cheaper and more forgiving for over voltages , also the use of a hydrometer gives a very good idea of the batt state of charge. I got some Surette batts , monitoring my water use I Can go 10 weeks before topping up water so not to arduous . Good luck with your investigations, it is quite mind boggling with all the different opinions and options. Regards Peter

No experience for a proposed large bank, only a small 2x12V, 2 panel system. With level of expenditure on a 48V system (the price of a modest new car!), it is surprising that the level of comparison and other data that is lacking.
